Bring on the sunshine

With all the stress and stupidity that I’ve had to deal with lately I have totally forgotten to mention that the boys and I are jetting over to Cape Town. Oh happy days!

I don’t really know what to expect. It’s been four years, there is some random stadium being built, friends of mine have partners, husbands, kids I’ve never met as well as some with kids who will have grown up a wee bit. Not to mention my sister and my lovely niece and nephew! It’s all very exciting stuff.

My skin will be layered in factor 1 billion to compensate for the total lack of sun over the past 4 years. Especially seeing as everyone over there has just gone through a whopper summer (or so I hear). Major tan envy!

Lil fella has been trying to practice his South African accent. Walks past me the other day….
‘Howzit, Ja” he said
‘Huh? What the heck was THAT’ I asked, confused by the geezer-slash-twang-mixed-with-bad-hollywood-version-South-African accent.
Sounding slightly put out, he replied, ‘Mum, I’m doing South African…. Touch, pause, ENGAGE!’
‘Oh no no no, I don’t want to engage!!!!..’ I yelled as a 10 year old ball of fury came hurtling toward me.

A few minutes later from the lounge floor I looked over at the mini-Saffa.
‘Boy, you are South African. You don’t have to pretend.’
‘But Mum! I sound so ENGLISH! I can’t arrive there sounding English!’

Heaven forbid.

We all have our own ways of preparing for a holiday. Now if you’ll excuse me I have a vat of sun cream to pre-order for pick up on arrival…

I’m walking on sunshine…

It’s a beautiful Saturday morning. Lovely sunshine coming in the windows, and I’m sitting here taking it easy with a nice hot cuppa.
However this does not been I have been idle this morning, oh no!This morning I woke up thinking “I must MUST get a UK passport for Little Fella”. He’s going to France this year for the school trip and I believe that a passport is rather important for this type of frivolity. And, thanks to the online passport application service (bless the internet) it’s now all completed and I will, within the next week, receive the forms for my signature and of course my cash. Done!

On top of that, I have purchased extra memory for my Mac, checked my accounts, updated my Facebook status, made breakfast for the boys before they had to leave (off to the warehouse to do boyish things involving mess, wood and noise), cleaned the kitchen and bizarrely discovered I have a pension fund I was totally unaware of!
I am on FIRE today. It’s not even 9am yet.

To keep up the momentum I’ve decided I should pop down to the bank to sort out something I’ve been putting off (as you do, because let’s face it, is there anything more annoying than talking to banking staff on a weekend). I am also going to get stuff organized for my little design company that I’ve been neglecting. (To be fair though, I haven’t really known what to do with it. It’s a long story and I’ll elaborate another day.) And then to round off a super productive day I will be doing a presentation for my folks, by which time I imagine the boys will be back and we can do some family type thing together.

Somehow life just works when there is some sunshine. Bring on the beautiful British spring time.
